Cyberside Chat: Minorities in Cybersecurity
August 5 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
You might have heard that there’s a cybersecurity talent shortage. According to cyberseek.org, there are currently over 500,000 cybersecurity job openings in the US, and that number is expected to continue growing every year. However, in an industry known for excellent compensation and career opportunities, why are there so few qualified individuals to fill the job openings of today?
Additionally, the current cybersecurity workforce is over 70% white and over 80% male. Why are there so few women and people of color (specifically Black and Hispanic individuals) entering this high-growth career field?
To help address some of these questions and provide insight for how people of color might start a career in the cyber sector, we’ve assembled a diverse mix of black and brown men and women across technical, non-technical, and executive leadership roles to provide insight to anyone in our community interested in exploring or furthering a career in tech.
Join us for a conversation around cybersecurity, how you might start a career in the field, the challenges and rewards of being a minority in tech, and other nuggets of wisdom from our excellent panelists! There will also be time for Q&A with our virtual audience.
